Appreciated for being “a born soloist” (Globe & Mail), where “one can almost hear the words in her flute song” (Washington Post), Canadian flutist Susan Hoeppner is in great demand as an international solo recitalist and chamber musician. Appearances include prestigious venues spanning the continents of North America, South America, Europe, and Asia.

Upcoming concerto performances for Susan include a world premiere by Canadian composer Christos Hatzis in August 2011 in Japan with the Kyoto Symphony, along with recital performances and masterclasses; she will also perform with the Northern Lights Musical Festival Orchestra (Mexico) in February 2012, and the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra in March 2012.

Susan Hoeppner is a musician of international renown; she has performed as a guest soloist with orchestras around the world, including the New York Chamber Orchestra, Takefu International Festival Orchestra in Japan, Lisbon Radio Orchestra, Orquesta de Camera in Buenos Aires, Northern Lights Music Festival Orchestra in Mexico, and the Sacramento Symphony.  In Canada, she has performed with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Calgary Philharmonic, Orchestre Métropolitain de Montréal, Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, Canadian Chamber Ensemble, Regina Symphony Orchestra, and the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra. 

Susan HoeppnerA true musical ambassador, Susan Hoeppner has performed at Canadian Embassies in London, New York City, Mexico City, and Tokyo.  With every concert, Ms. Hoeppner enjoys performing repertoire by esteemed Canadian composers such as Srul Irving Glick, Christos Hatzis, Michael Conway Baker, Marjan Mozetich, among many others.

Among Canada’s top artists Ms. Hoeppner has collaborated with, in performance and recording include pianists Anton Kuerti, Marc-André Hamelin; opera singers Measha Brueggergosman, Ben Heppner, Richard Margison; harpist Judy Loman; percussionist Beverley Johnston; guitarist Simon Wynberg; violist Steven Dann; and collaborative pianists Lydia Wong and Robert Kortgaard.  Ms. Hoeppner is in demand as a recording artist as well.  Her numerous discs appear on Marquis Classics, EMI Classics, Grammophon AB BIS, JVC Victor and King Record labels.

Marquis Classics will be releasing Susan and Lydia Wong’s recording of American Masterpieces in the summer of 2011, which will be available on iTunes.

Susan was invited by the well-known music publisher Frederick Harris Music Company to serve as their Canadian representative to launch a new flute teaching series called "Overtones:A Comprehensive Flute Series" at the National Flute Association in California in August 2010.  She performed in presentation recitals of “Overtones” across North America.  Past projects include participating in fashion designer Rosemarie Umetsu’s 2010 “Iconic Beauty”, a photographic celebration of Canadian Female Artists; and being photographed by renowned French photographer Pierre Maraval for  the 2007 opening gala of Luminato Festival of Arts and Creativity, which celebrated 1,000 Toronto women who contribute to the artistic community. 

Susan Hoeppner maintains an active media presence.  She can be frequently heard on Canada's national broadcaster, on CBC Radio 2, on live broadcasts on Bravo! Television, and Galaxie TV radio.  

A graduate of The Juilliard School in New York, where she studied with Julius Baker, Ms. Hoeppner is now a member of the University of Toronto's Faculty of Music where, along with regular recital appearances, she teaches a class on performance.  An active teacher of gifted advanced students, Ms. Hoeppner was appointed to the faculty of the Royal Conservatory’s Glenn Gould School in the fall of 2010. Along with teaching, she also coaches chamber music.  Every summer, Ms. Hoeppner teaches at Domaine Forget in Charlevoix, Quebec as well as the Julius Baker Masterclass in New York. 

Ms. Hoeppner, "Sue" to her friends, enjoys swimming, power-walking, shoe-shopping, cooking, designing candles, and is a devoted animal lover.  She enjoys learning foreign languages, such as Japanese, French, and Spanish.  She also puts her organisational skills to use by helping friends sort their closets and homes. She resides in Toronto, Canada.
